The New Year That Never Came
On December 20th, 1989, Romania stands on the brink of revolution. The streets are alive with demonstrations, students mock the regime through art, and New Year’s shows glorify Ceausescu. Yet, behind closed doors, families grapple with personal conflicts and the omnipresent Secret Police. Six seemingly disconnected lives intersect in unexpected ways. As tensions reach a boiling point, an explosive moment brings them together, culminating in the dramatic fall of Ceausescu and the communist regime.
Roemenië, 20 december 1989: een land aan de vooravond van een revolutie. Buiten vinden grootscheepse demonstraties plaats, maar het nieuws hierover is schaars. Tegelijkertijd wordt president Ceau?escu verheerlijkt in nieuwjaarsshows op tv. Terwijl hij de kerstfestiviteiten inluidt, worstelen families binnenshuis met hun persoonlijke conflicten, nauwlettend in de gaten gehouden door de alom aanwezige geheime politie. Op deze roerige dag kruisen zes levens elkaar. Zonder te weten wat hen te wachten staat, brengt een explosieve gebeurtenis hen samen; een die de toekomst voorgoed zal tekenen.
20 décembre 1989. La Roumanie est au bord de la révolution. Les autorités préparent les festivités du Nouvel An comme si de rien n’était ou presque mais le vernis officiel commence à craquer. Dans l’effervescence de la contestation, six destins vont se croiser au fil d’une journée pas comme les autres Jusqu’à la chute de Ceausescu et de son régime.
